There is a movement in Encinitas to adopt a similar ordinance. Because the city council there voted down any discussion of open government it is up to their citizens to pry it open.

Budget busting claims are textbook tactics for cities opposed to open government, but even a cursory review of the city staff's estimates shows how over the top they are. Claims it would require two full time employees to make sure the website is in compliance, which the city already does for different criterial, begs the question of whether they have any valid criticisms of the ordinance. At the last council meeting nobody, not even the staff, defended their earlier budget projections.
